Halifax Regional Police say an insecure cap on a hauling truck was responsible for dumping up to 75 litres of oil on the Bedford Highway and into the Sackville River.

Nova Scotia Environment spokeswoman Jodi Sibley said the spill happened at around 10 a.m. yesterday.

“Inspectors have been on the site all day working with the cleanup company to ensure that the proper measures are being taken,” said Sibley.

She could not say if the driver of the truck will face charges. “That’s all part of the investigation,” she said.
