Lt.-Gov. grateful for community support after fire

British Columbia’s lieutenant-governor said he is thankful for the public support his family has received after their Chilliwack home was gutted in a suspicious fire.

“Our friends, neighbours and everyone in the community have reached out to us in so many ways and we appreciate and thank them for their support and assistance,” Steven Point said in a news release yesterday.

The RCMP also announced they will not take any chances.

“A threat assessment has been carried out,” Cpl. Peter Thiessen said. “Additional security will be provided for Lt.-Gov. Steven Point and his family on a day-to-day basis.”

He added that investigators have met with Point to establish a motive for Sunday’s suspected arson and several theories are being investigated.
