Magical history tours

Canada’s National History Society, publisher of The Beaver magazine, is partnering with two Winnipeg-based travel companies to offer historical tours this summer.

Three trips in August will explore destinations in northern Ontario and Manitoba. Author Ken McGoogan will host a two-day tour of northern Manitoba with stops including Norway House, Churchill, Gillam and York Factory, and charter flight service out of Winnipeg. McGoogan will also host an extended tour that adds three nights at Winnipeg’s Hotel Fort Garry. Activities include a look at Hudson’s Bay Co. materials at the Manitoba Archives and Manitoba Museum.

And a five-day heritage rail tour out of Toronto will take in Sudbury’s 125th anniversary and include museum visits in White River and Capreol. Travel operators Heartland Travel International and Rail Travel Tours are participating in the program. For trip details, see www.historysociety.ca/out.asp.
