Majority happy with HRM council: Poll

A small majority of people are happy with the direction of municipal government, according to a new poll by Corporate Research Associates.

CRA found that 53 per cent of people were “mostly” satisfied with council, while another two per cent were “completely” satisfied. On the opposite side, 38 per cent of people were either mostly or completely dissatisfied.

Dissatisfaction was highest in rural parts of the municipality with 43 per cent.

The results are considered accurate within 4.9 percentage points 19 times out of 20. The poll also suggests people of HRM are tired of being known as people of HRM. As with past CRA polls, the survey found a majority of people supported splitting the municipality into urban and rural entities. Support for separation was highest in Halifax and rural areas, where it sits at about 60 per cent. It’s less popular in Dartmouth and Bedford/Sackville.

Samplings
The poll was based on a sample of 400 adult residents polled between Feb. 2 to 14.
