Newfoundland-born comedian Shaun Majumder has landed a starring role on an American television series.

The Gemini Award-winning actor-comic, a regular on CBC-TV's "This Hour Has 22 Minutes," will shoot a pilot for an untitled comedy for ABC in Los Angeles next month, says his manager, Jodi Lieberman.

The show is being created by writer-producer Jeff Strauss, whose previous TV credits include "Reba" and "Friends."

As a result of the shooting schedule, Majumder has had to pull out of this Friday's "Weekend of Comedy" fundraiser for the national homelessness charity Raising the Roof in Toronto.

Lieberman says Majumder will be at Saturday's show, though.

Majumder has done standup comedy around the world and several times at the Montreal Just for Laughs festival.

Now based in Los Angeles, he recently guest starred on the Canadian comedy TV series "Less Than Kind," which airs on Citytv, and was seen in the film "Unhitched" last March.

His other film credits include "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle," "The Ladies Man" and "Pushing Tin."
