Making T.O. jealous

Forget notions of Mississauga as Toronto’s younger, less-cool sibling.

In the municipality’s heart, at Duke of York Boulevard and Hurontario Street, lies a new condominium and loft complex called Onyx, set to give Hogtown urbanites a run for their money.

“The inspiration was really to create an urban oasis, where people who aim to live, work and play in downtown Mississauga can still have an urban-chic home to entertain in,” said Renee Bourgon, marketing and communications director for Onyx’s developer, Davies Smith Developments.

Like the gemstone they’re named after, the Munge Leung-designed Onyx suites have a strong appearance, largely due to their stark contrast between dark and light. White walls, fixtures and furniture intercept the deep brown wenge-like floors and black accents that accentuate a suite’s polarity.

“It’s really about creating a stunning look that is very striking,” said Bourgon, “Given the design of the front lobby, we wanted the model suite to emulate what (the resident’s) guests would experience when they come into the front lobby of your building and they come up to your home. It would just be breathtaking and give off such an impression.”

Making an impression shouldn’t be a problem with the ultra-modern furniture and overall construction of the suites. “We know the target market is very young, urban professional, hip, modern and looking for that kind of flair. The aim was to emulate that, to make it very desirable,” said Bourgon.

Onyx suites range from 532 to 1,034 square feet. Prices range between the $200,000s and $300,000s. For more information, visit davies-smith.com or call 905-566-5090.
