Mamma Mia takes over Metro Centre

Mamma Mia! fever is hitting Halifax this weekend.

The hit musical that is touring throughout North America is performing five times at the Halifax Metro Centre over three days, beginning Friday at 8 p.m.

“It’s at a rock concert level,” Mary Callanan, who plays the character of Rosie in the popular musical, told Metro in a recent interview about the show.

“All the little girls know all the words, and there are always a few reluctant husbands who are dancing by the end (too).”

The musical that incorporates popular music based on ABBA songs tells the story of Sophie Sheridan who is engaged to be married, and is searching for her father, so he can walk her down the aisle at her wedding.

“There’s something for everybody on that stage” Callanan promises. “You kind of laugh and maybe shed a tear or two. It’s the story of strong women, of mothers and daughters, of making choices and sticking with them, and life isn’t always picture perfect. People see themselves in the characters.”

Besides Friday, Mamma Mia! will take to the Metro Centre stage on Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 1 and 7 p.m.
