A suspected child molester is facing charges, thanks to a tipster who helped police identify the suspect after viewing images captured mid-assault from frozen transit security footage.

A bus driver witnessed the assault of a 12-year-old girl who was touched inappropriately on the No. 8 bus on New Year’s Day.

The driver confronted the attacker, who quickly hopped off the bus near 118 Avenue and 47 Street, just before 10:30 a.m.

Frozen security camera images released by the media yielded a tip on Jan. 5, and ultimately led police to the suspect.

Ron Gabruck, director of ETS safety and security, said though sexual assaults on public transit are rare, reports have declined 42 per cent in the past year.

“People are becoming aware that if you commit a crime on ETS property, you will eventually be caught.”

Currently, there are 1,800 live cameras on city buses and trains.

Abdurahman Dahir Yacin, 21, has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference in connection with the incident.
