Police are warning people to beware of fraud on Craigslist after would-be renters paid deposits for apartments that do not exist.
Vancouver Police Const. Tim Fanning said that 31-year-old Edward Francis Hamilton has been arrested on five accounts of fraud after he rented rooms to at least five people from Vancouver and Alberta.
“People have to make sure they actually go see the place,” said Fanning.
He added that rental fraud is a common occurrence and encourages the public to report future cases to police.
