Man arrested in 24-hour store after allegedly threatening call to police

Police say they have arrested a man carrying weapons at a 24-hour retail store inside a southwest mall around 6 a.m. Tuesday, after the man allegedly called police from a pay phone threatening to harm others.

While the man claimed he was at a downtown payphone, police say they traced him to a store inside Westbrook Mall.

Upon arrival, police say they located the man carrying a loaded .22-calibre Sig Sauer semi-automatic handgun with 10 rounds in the magazine. He was arrested without incident. The weapon was found inside a duffel bag, police say.

The man’s identity will not be released until charges are officially laid.
