Man busted on child porn rap released

A 51-year-old Vancouver man has been arrested and charged with possessing and distributing child pornography following a two-week long investigation.

Warren Robert Allen was allegedly found with “a substantial amount” of child pornography on his computer, said Const. Lindsey Houghton, adding that he’s been released on a promise to appear.

Sgt. Tony Cavezza said there’s no evidence to suggest the children are local and police don’t feel anybody is at risk by Allen’s release. Houghton said that looking at thousands of “upsetting photographs” can take its toll on investigators, who are encouraged only by the knowledge that it’s a necessary step in apprehending suspects.

According to Det. Kate Caprarie, calls to police about suspected child porn cases are becoming more frequent because the Internet makes it easy for culprits to download and share images.

“They ... collect volumes of it,” Caprarie said. “It’s like trading cards. They just want more and more.”

“The training required is quite intense to track them on the Internet,” she said.
