Man charged after two robberies on Tuesday

Ottawa police have charged an Ottawa man following two retail robberies in the city’s east end earlier this week.

Between 11 p.m. and midnight Tuesday, police responded to two robberies where a male had entered a store brandishing a handgun. An undisclosed amount of money, lottery tickets and cigarettes were taken.

Based on witness information, police stopped a vehicle, recovered property and charged a driver.

Nicholas Alswiti, 22, faces two counts of each robbery with a firearm, pointing a firearm, using a firearm during the commission of an offence and possession of weapons dangerous to the public, as well as four counts of breach of undertaking.
