Man charged in ‘predatory’ sex attacks

A local DJ and former assistant to several Vancouver councillors has been arrested and charged in connection with sexual assaults against four girls — including a six-year-old.

Ibata Noric Hexamer, 42, was arrested last week and appeared in Vancouver court yesterday morning on 23 charges dating back to 1995.

According to Det. Dan Murphy, lead investigator in the case, the investigation began in 2009 when DNA evidence linked an assault on a six-year-old Surrey girl to similar attacks in 2007 and 1995.

“At (that) point we realized … this was a serial child sex predator, and that he was at-large and free to reoffend at will,” Murphy said.

“Predatory, stranger attacks are extremely difficult because there are no known ties between the victim and attacker.”

Murphy said hundreds of witnesses and persons-of-interest were interviewed, and “tireless” investigators narrowed the field down to one suspect.

“This arrest marks the culmination of 18 months of hard work by countless investigators,” he said.

“This is the highlight of our policing careers. This type of thing is why we become police officers — to take dangerous offenders off (the streets).”
