An arrest has been made in the brutal murder of a New Brunswick woman in B.C. almost a year ago.

Thirty-two-year-old Ian Michael Hewitt of Abbotsford has been charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Angela Crossman of Moncton.

The body of the 39-year-old woman was found on June 11 last year on a forest road near Agassiz, east of Vancouver.

Police describe the area as a popular party and camping spot.

RCMP Cpl. Dale Carr of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says Crossman had lived in the region for a couple of years and departed before coming back about a year before she was murdered. She was living in Abbotsford.

He says she was not involved in any criminal activity and was just trying to make friends when she met someone he calls “very sinister.”
