A 56-year-old man is the latest pedestrian to die on the streets of Toronto.

Police say the man was crossing in the middle of the block (on Horner Avenue, west of Kipling Avenue) Tuesday afternoon when he was hit by a flatbed tow truck. Police say the 45-year-old truck driver tried to stop but he couldn’t stop in time.

The pedestrian suffered major trauma and was pronounced dead in hospital.

He’s Toronto’s 13th traffic fatality of the year.

In January, Toronto police mounted a jaywalking ticketing blitz, calling on motorists and pedestrians to pay more attention after 14 pedestrians were struck and killed in the GTA that month.
