A 40-year-old man is dead after his vehicle crashed on the 159 Street exit ramp on Whitemud Drive.
Officers were called to the single-vehicle collision around 4:45 p.m. Thursday.
Police say a preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Whitemud Drive was attempting to pass two other vehicles on the exit ramp at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle then lost control and crashed into a light standard on the south curb of the ramp.
After ricocheting off the lamp post, the vehicle rolled and struck a tree on the boulevard, trapping the driver inside.
The driver was pronounced dead at a hospital. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The police investigation continues.
