Man dies in double stabbing

One man is dead and another in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a double stabbing at an apartment complex in Dartmouth early yesterday morning.
Just after 12:30 a.m., someone from a unit at 275 Windmill Rd. called police to report that a man was dead.
When officers appeared on scene, they found 37-year-old Gregory Fost stabbed to death inside the apartment and a 51-year-old man suffering from stab wounds and other injuries.
“There were a number of people present in the apartment, all known to one another,” said Const. Jeff Carr with the Halifax Regional Police.
“They were drinking when some type of a dispute arose which escalated and resulted in one man dead and one man seriously injured in hospital.”
At around 2 a.m., police arrested a 45-year-old man in another unit in the building.
The suspect remained in custody yesterday.
“We’re not actively seeking anyone further at this point in the investigation,” Carr said.
A few residents in the building just off Windmill Road relaxed in the sunshine on their balconies late yesterday morning, watching as police cars pulled in and out of the parking lot.
Inside the building, a police officer stood guard at the entrance to the second floor from the main stairwell.
Two police cruisers were stationed in an empty lot at the back of the building where yellow caution tape cordoned off a lengthy section of fencing behind the unit where the stabbing took place.
