Man found not criminally responsible in alleged YMCA assault

A man charged with attacking a woman in the ladies’ washroom of a YMCA has been found not criminally responsible.

Khalid Khulaif Alhardbi, 19, was alleged to have turned out the lights in the South Park Street Y last February and grabbed a 24 year-year-old woman while wearing a mask. The woman broke free and ran away.

Alhardbi was charged with hostage taking, assault causing bodily harm and wearing a mask during an offence. This week Alhardbi was judged not criminally responsible for the first two offences. The charge of wearing a mask was dropped.

Alhardbi has been remanded to the East Coast Forensic Facility, where he will stay until a review board deems he is safe to the public.
