Man gets life for Ryerson death

A Toronto man has been sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole for 18 years in the stabbing death of his girlfriend.

Arssei Hindessa was convicted of second-degree murder in March in the 2006 death of Natalie Novak.

The 20-year-old Ryerson University student had been found dead in her apartment, stabbed nine times in the chest and her throat slit.

Police said at the time there had been an “on-and-off, hot-cold” relationship between the victim and the accused, and he had previously assaulted her three times.
