Man gropes teenage girl near bus stop

A 17-year-old girl was groped in Delta, the fifth case in the Lower Mainland of men groping women this month, police said.

RCMP Sgt. Sharlene Brooks said the teenager was headed toward a bus stop on Wednesday afternoon when a man in his late teens grabbed her buttocks.

He then ran away.

Dr. Jessica McFarlane, a professor of psychology at the University of B.C., said sexual assaults are not about sex. “Offenders want to prove they have power.

Sexual assault typically happen if an offender believes they can target someone and not get caught.”

This could be why many assaults occur near transit areas, McFarlane said.
