Man holding knife to wife’s throat killed by police

A Vancouver man who held a knife to his wife’s throat was shot dead by police.

A 13-year-old girl was in the home at the time.

Police were called to Birch Street around 9:30 on Friday night after receiving calls about a woman screaming.

Officers forced their way into the home, where they saw Eugene Anthony Knight, 46, holding a knife to the throat of his 46-year-old wife, said RCMP Sgt. Peter Thiessen.

One officer shocked Knight with a Taser, which police at the scene later said failed to stop the suspect.

“Two of the officers with 10 years and nine months service with the VPD then discharged their firearms fatally wounding Knight,” said Thiessen.

“Knight’s wife was not physically harmed and was transported to the Vancouver police office along with her 13-year-old daughter, who was present in the home at the time of this incident.”

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is investigating the incident, and the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner has been notified of the shooting.
