A 30-year-old Vancouver man is in jail after five people were stabbed over a half-hour period on the weekend.

“For reasons still unknown to investigators, the suspect allegedly stabbed a man in the back near the intersection of East Broadway and Commercial Drive,” said Const. Lindsey Houghton of the incident on Saturday night.

Four more people were stabbed between Commercial Drive and Clark Drive, where the suspect allegedly tried to carjack a vehicle.

“Witnesses in the 1100 block of East 11th Avenue saw what happened, called 911, and two witnesses chased the suspect on foot,” said Houghton.

“Officers arrested the suspect … and a weapon was recovered.”

All the victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were treated in hospital.

The suspect is not known to the victims and a motive for the attacks remains unclear.
