Vancouver police have arrested a 36-year-old Vancouver man after a Sun Run participant was stabbed in the face after finishing the race.

The victim, a 36-year-old Surrey man, was at the baggage claim area at the south end of Carrall Street on Sunday morning when he was attacked, said Const. Lindsey Houghton.

“Several witnesses saw someone run up behind him, hit him in the head and strike him in the cheek with a weapon,” Houghton said.

“When the assailant ran off north towards Expo Boulevard, several Sun Run participants gave chase. They caught up to him a short distance away and held him until police arrived.”

The victim was treated in hospital for a cut to his cheek and injury to his sinuses. Calvin George Walker has been charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon.
