The SIU says police were conducting a stop check on a highway off-ramp, and at about 11 p.m. officers stopped a pickup truck and spoke with its driver.
The truck fled and officers followed, trying to stop the vehicle by blocking it in.
The SIU says officers “interacted” with the driver, the truck hit an officer and two officers fired their guns.
The driver was hit by at least one bullet and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
