Const. Tim Fanning discusses the murder of a 19-year-old Richmond man who was gunned down in an apparent targeted gangland hit. It is Vancouver’s fourth homicide of 2008.

The body of slain 19-year-old Pritpal Singh Virk was found in the 400 block of East 54th Avenue after being gunned-down in a gangland-style shooting Saturday night.

Virk is the city’s fourth homicide of the year.

Kiran Dhaliwal, 16, lives down the street from the murder scene and said she didn’t hear any gunshots.

She said she overheard police talking to friends who were partying with Virk at the murder scene, and heard he had been drinking and smoking pot and come outside for some fresh air.

Virk was known to police, and in May was a passenger in a rented Ford Explorer that plunged into the Nechako River near Vanderhoof while trying to elude police.

He was pulled from the river and treated for hypothermia. RCMP found 170 marijuana plants in the SUV.

The van’s driver, Daljit Sandhu, 19, of Richmond, died in the accident. Virk and a 22-year-old Surrey man were charged for drug-related offenses in Prince George.

Witnesses who have not been interviewed by police, are asked to call the VPD Major Crime Section at 604 717-2500.
