Man killed in Dartmouth crash

A two-car collision in Dartmouth has left one person dead and sent two to hospital.

Police were called to the corner of Craigburn Drive and Waverley Road just before noon on Thursday.

According to Halifax Regional Police spokesperson Const. Brian Palmeter, a sedan turning onto Waverly collided with a pickup truck driven by an off-duty police officer.

“The car was pulling out off Craigburn Drive from a stop sign out onto Waverley Road, and was struck by a truck that was travelling southwest,” he said. “There were two elderly people in the car, a man who was pronounced dead on the scene and a woman who was transported to hospital with undetermined injuries.”

The driver of the truck was not injured, but a female passenger was transported to hospital with minor leg injuries.

Palmeter said the investigation is still in its early stages.

“At this point, it’s too early to say. There were no independent witnesses to the accident,” he said of a possible cause.

“But at this point, it’s not believed that speed is a factor.”
