On Wednesday, the lawyer who advises the Senate Judiciary Committee on nominations tweeted, then deleted, that he is “determined” to get Brett Kavanaugh confirmed to the Supreme Court.
That came after lawyers for Christine Blasey Ford — the professor who has accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault when they were teenagers — voiced concerns that Ford would not be treated fairly if she were to testify before the Senate on Monday, as Republicans have requested. Ford and her attorneys have asked for a nonpartisan FBI investigation.
“Unfazed and determined. We will confirm Judge Kavanaugh.” Mike Davis tweeted on Wednesday night, Slate reported.
Davis also tweeted that he had questioned Kavanaugh for five hours under oath but had yet to make contact with Ford’s legal team because of their TV appearances.
This morning, the tweets had been deleted, and Davis posted what he said was a clarification.
“To clear up any confusion, I was referring to Democrats’ partisan political attacks and their refusal to take part in the committee’s thorough and fair investigation. I deleted the tweet to avoid any further misinterpretation by left wing media as so often happens on Twitter,” he wrote.

Some Twitter users said that “We will confirm Judge Kavanaugh” didn’t leave much room for left-wing misinterpretation.
“Only allowing 7% of Kavanaugh’s documents is not thorough, and not calling for FBI investigation into sexual assault and perjury charges is not fair to his victim or the American people. ‘Unfazed and determined. We will confirm Judge Kavanaugh.’ We know exactly what you meant,” wrote @jenhansen31.
Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee have given Ford a deadline of Friday at 10am to agree to testify about her accusations. Democrats have argued that there is no rush, considering that Republicans held up Merrick Garland’s nomination for more than a year, and said Monday was an arbitrary deadline.
On Thursday afternoon, attorneys for Ford said she was in negotiations to testify before the committee next week, although Monday would be impossible. They have set conditions for the interview, including an assurance that Ford would be safe and secure.
Ford, who lives in California, has gone into hiding with her children after receiving death threats.
