A man has been released from hospital after being shot in his arm and hand at the Cassandra Hotel on Kingsway.

Vancouver police Const. Jana McGuinness said officers were called to the hotel on Thursday night.

“Members arrived and contained a second floor suite after finding a shell casing in the lane and observing a broken second floor window,” she said. “Four people were taken out of the suite along with another man who was suffering from a gunshot wound to his arm.”

A sixth man, who police say was intoxicated, then shut the door and refused to come out.

Emergency Response Team members and a police negotiator were called to help and after two hours, the man came out.

“This appears to be a targeted incident however it is too early to say if it is gang related,” McGuinness said.
