Man shot dead

A midday shooting at a suspected inner-city drug house across the road from Commonwealth Stadium has resulted in Edmonton’s third homicide of the year.
Investigators discovered a 27-year-old man inside a duplex at 112 Ave. and 90 St. yesterday suffering from what they believe was gunshot wounds to his chest.
Police received a 9-1-1 call about a weapons complaint shortly before 11 a.m. Paramedics rushed the man to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Patrycia Chalupczynska, a police spokeswoman, says detectives are looking for three suspects who were seen by witnesses wearing masks as they fled from the home.
One resident told Metro yesterday that the duplex is notorious in the neighbourhood for young people seen entering and leaving the building during odd hours of the night.
“I have been here for 20 years and before they built that house, there used to be an old crack house there — same thing with the house that’s next door to my place,” said 71-year-old Roger DeJordy.
“They just cleaned all that up, but there were people that just started renting at that home.”
Police have not ruled out the home being linked to drug activity.
Outside the home, police taped off an area around 112 Ave. and 90 St., including an area where a red and silver pick up truck could be seen sitting in the back driveway.
Officers were also seen knocking on doors in the neighbourhood.
The shooting is the second homicide in the city over the past three days.
