Man survives reportedly being kicked out of car and shot at

A man was reportedly kicked out of a vehicle and shot at yesterday afternoon in Dartmouth.

At 4 p.m. Halifax Regional Police received a report of a young man being kicked out of a grey vehicle by the driver on Lakecrest Road near the intersection of Major Road. The driver then reportedly fired at least one shot at the victim, but missed.

The victim was injured, but not due to a gunshot. Police said he was taken to the Dartmouth General Hospital with a leg injury.

As of early last evening, police weren’t sure if the man had been pushed out of the vehicle or jumped out on his own.

“How he came to get out of that vehicle is still part of the investigation. And then the vehicle turned around and a shot was fired on him,” said Halifax Regional Police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter.

A dog team was brought in to search for forensic evidence.

Police were looking for a grey car but were not yet sure of the make and model. They also didn’t know if the shooting was linked to a string of other recent public shootings in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Police interviewed witnesses at the scene in the late afternoon and were waiting to talk to the victim after he was treated in hospital.
