A man tried to escape a Brazilian prison with a mask he made out of leftover soap to mimic the face of a prison guard, reports UOL. The amateur sculptor used leftover soap to make a mask in the likeness of a prison guard at a prison in the town of Santa Rita, near the city of João Pessoa.

Prison administrators seized the mask after receiving tips about an escape plan. When caught, the amateur artist claimed he was just making a tribute to the prison guard, but couldn’t explain why he had been hiding his masterpiece. The prison has 150 inmates.

Walber Virgolino, Secretary of Corrections, told UOL that the prisoner will be able to take art classes and channel his talent into “something positive.”
