Mayor Gregor Robertson wants to host a “Manny Pacquiao Day” in Vancouver and has even penned a letter to invite boxing’s fighter of the decade to the West Coast. In his Nov. 10 letter of invitation, Robertson praises Pacquiao for his achievements and his positive impact on youth and says many of the boxer’s most enthusiastic Filipino-Canadian fans live in Vancouver.
Pacquiao has not formally replied to the mayor’s invite and no trip to Vancouver has been confirmed.
“The Philippine Consulate welcomes Mayor Robertson’s initiative of holding a Manny Pacquiao Day in Vancouver,” said Raly Tejada, acting Consul General at the Philippine Consulate in Vancouver.
“Manny is truly a living icon to ... the almost half a million Filipinos in Canada.”
