Mansions, humble homes burn in Southern California wildfire

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – An estimated 13,000 people have been ordered to evacuate as a fast-moving wildfire threatens homes in Southern California.

In Santa Barbara County, huge mansions and humble homes alike have been reduced to rubble. The governor has declared a state of emergency. At least 200 hectares have burned. All thats left are palm trees swaying over gutted ruins.

Authorities arent estimating the number of lost structures beneath the thick smoke.

Gusts have been nearing 80 kilometres an hour, with sustained winds closer to 40 kilometres.
