Manslaughter charges for Pictou man

A Pictou County native working as a Toronto police officer has been charged with manslaughter.

A Pictou County native working as a Toronto police officer has been charged with manslaughter.

According to reports in The Globe and Mail, Const. David Cavanagh, a police tactical officer, will appear in court Jan. 6 to answer to charges involving the death of 26-year-old Eric Osawe.

Thirty-four-year-old Cavanagh is a member of Toronto’s Emergency Task Force and has been commended in the past for being part of high-risk takedowns.

It is reported around 1 a.m. on Sept. 29, the Emergency Task Force arrived at Osawe’s third-floor condominium, near Bloor Street and Kipling Avenue, to execute a search warrant. Osawe was shot and taken to St. Michael’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
