Tom Dempsey, who is a contractor with roots in the community that go back 150 years, spent all his free time working on the house.
“He puts in hundreds of hours and someone takes an axe to it? It makes me want to puke,” said his wife Corrinne Dempsey, who’s originally from Vancouver.
“We put every single cent into this house.”
The vandalism hasn’t deterred the couple from continuing to build though. Dempsey says sub-contractors and friends have been calling to offer work and rebuilding starts today.
“My husband has to rebuild. My husband has wanted this since he was a child,” she said. “He always knew this land would be passed down.”
The home is meant to house three generations, including the couple’s children aged three and eight and Tom’s parents who also live in the community.
