Marinus Verhagen, owner of Verhagen Demolition, confirmed Wednesday he was contacted by the MacKay Group last week to give an estimate on how much it will cost to demolish the much-maligned Maritime Building.
The Town of New Glasgow confirmed no demolition permits have been issued. The building is owned by entrepreneur Cohen MacInnis from Antigonish. The 21-year-old bought the building in January 2008 with promises to revitalize the 93-year-old building.
In January, however, an inspection by the fire marshal’s office identified 17 actions MacInnis would have to take to make the building habitable.
