A Markham teen who died over the weekend while trying to save a drowning friend had promised his family just hours before that he wouldn’t go in the dangerous waters of eastern Lake Ontario.
Ahmad Choudhry, 17, was with a group of four friends on a trip to North Beach Park south of Trenton on Saturday when two of his friends slipped under the water.
Though he had promised his mother before he left that he wouldn’t swim in the notoriously dangerous section of Lake Ontario, Choudhry wasted little time when he saw his friends in trouble.
“He promised my mom he wasn’t going to go swimming,” said his sister, Sameen Ashraf, 22. “He jumped in to save his friend fully clothed,” she explained.
