A high school senior in Berlin, Md. has been charged after he allegedly mailed three packages containing animal feces to his school’s vice principal.
The student, whose name has not been released, sent the packages to Vice Principal Mark Flynn at Stephen Decatur High School, The Delmarva Daily Times reported. It is not clear why Flynn was targeted.
It all started on April 30 when the vice principal received a package at the school that contained fecal matter. He notified a school security officer, a sheriff’s deputy, who in turn notified the post office.
Three days later, a postal inspector told the deputy that two more similar packages that were also addressed to Flynn had been dropped off. It was later determined that those packages also contained fecal matter, a sheriff’s office spokesman told the Daily Times.
The postal inspector observed who had dropped off the packages and wrote down the student’s license plate number, the spokesman said.
Police then tracked down the student’s home and car. He was arrested at a McDonald’s near his school on May 5.
The teen admitted to police that he sent the packages that contained dog and cow excrement.
He has been charged with three counts of disturbing activities at school and three counts of molesting a school administrator. According to police, molestation in this case refers to an unwarranted or malicious bothering.
He was also charged with underage alcohol possession after police found “a large quantity of alcohol” in his car.
The case has been referred to juvenile services.
In addition to the charges, the teen has been suspended from school for 10 days, which is the maximum amount of time that a student can be suspended, Barb Witherow, a Worcester County Schools spokeswoman, told the Daily Times.
“We do promote a respectful and positive learning environment,” she said. “Any inappropriate or disruptive or illegal activity is not acceptable.”
