Quatchi, the shy and elusive sasquatch, will likely vanish before Christmas.

Plush versions of Quatchi and Miga are expected to sell out in the next week, organizers of the 2010 Olympics said yesterday.

"There’s been a much stronger demand than we expected, which obviously we’re very pleased about," said Dave Cobb, Vanoc’s executive vice-president.

The winged Paralympic mascot Sumi sold out within two weeks of the unveiling. Cobb said less Sumis were ordered because traditionally people buy less of the Paralympic mascots.

Vanoc ordered an overrun of 30 per cent above what retailers had requested. A second order of 300,000 mascots will be in stores in January.
