Last year’s snub of The Dark Knight convinced the Oscar brain trust to acknowledge 10 flicks this year. I’ve only seen five, so here’s my annual (yet abbreviated) booze matches for the nominees.

Avatar: I love my science fiction and the big blue Na’vi inspire the choice of Hpnotiq ($40 - $49.99) — a blend of vodka, cognac and tropical fruit juice — as the perfect colour-coordinated partner.

Up In The Air: I fly a lot and when grabbing a drink on board I turn to a neutral spirit which, of course, is served in a 50 millilitre bottle. A little (literally) Absolute Vodka ($2.99 - $3.25) helps me go a long way.

Inglourious Basterds: All the Nazi scalping fun takes place in France, so I’m sure the boys would have enjoyed a mug of French lager like the creamy Kronenbourg 1664 ($2.60 - $2.99).

District 9: The South African location for this brilliant piece of sci-fi makes me think wine and a glass of Two Oceans Shiraz ($9.95 - $12.49).

The Hurt Locker: This explosive pic has a lock on Oscar. Celebrate with a Jäger Bomb made by mixing a half a can of Red Bull and an ounce of Jägermeister ($28.95 - $33.99).
