May Long crackdown

The RCMP is going to be out in full force this weekend and they want party revellers to know they are serious.

Staff Sgt. Patrick Webb told Metro they will be adopting a tough approach to this weekend’s bad behaviour.

“We know most people are responsible but we know there are a significant amount of people who think it’s a free-for-all weekend, and it’s not,” Webb said.

“I want to say we’re taking a zero-tolerance approach but it’s more of a minimal tolerance approach.”

RCMP will have extended shifts, more patrols, constant Checkstops and even the RCMP helicopter will be out. They are looking for drug and alcohol incidents as well as rowdy behaviour.

Avid camper 27-year-old Paula White told Metro the extra security doesn’t affect her.

“My fun doesn’t consist of crazy partying, it’s more about hiking and climbing. I think it’s good to have extra (security) out because there are a lot of families,” she said.
