Mayor Larry O’Brien is backing promoters to bring events such as Wreck Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and Ultimate Fighting Champion fights to Ottawa in 2011.
With planning in the early stages, O’Brien is meeting with promoters to find out their future goals and support their plans. He thinks these events would create jobs and revenues in the city.
“The province has given the MMA the green light to operate in Ontario,” said O’Brien.
“Scotiabank Place could be a great venue to host these events.”
He said Ottawa shouldn’t miss the boat on this kind of interesting opportunity.
