Mayor Dave Bronconnier will lobby his municipal counterparts across the country for a co-ordinated response to the Haiti earthquake disaster.

Bronconnier will present his plan later this week to the Big City Mayor’s Caucus to have municipalities put together teams of municipal experts on areas such as building inspections, environmental matters, restoration of water supply and personal safety and policing for the devastated country.

The teams would then be put into action once the rebuilding phase begins.

“It ties in with the spirit of municipal co-operation, but most importantly, the international community has stepped up financially ... I believe now it’s time for municipal governments to respond as well,” said Bronconnier.

The motion received unanimous support from council at yesterday’s meeting.
