Former mayoral hopefuls Ric McIver and Barb Higgins may once again be vying for the same job.

Both have expressed interest in taking over for Environment Minister Jim Prentice.

Prentice announced yesterday that he will be quitting as MP of Calgary’s Centre-North riding to take a position as the vice-chairman of CIBC.

Former alderman McIver said that Prentice’s announcement sparked his interest.

“That is a possibility, and I’m investigating that actively right now,” he said. “Obviously I still have an interest in serving publicly and I think I made that clear after the municipal election.”

Barb Higgins civic campaign manager Alan Hallman said she has “the political bug.”

“She’s looking at it,” said Hallman. “She quite enjoyed the civic campaign.”
