Memorial to be held for firefighter killed in India

A memorial service will be held Thursday morning for a Vancouver firefighter who died in India after a motorcycle accident.

Cindy Kampmeinert, 41, died Dec. 17 in the state of Goa. According to media reports she was found by the side of the road by a British tourist who tried and failed to get her admitted to three area hospitals. Eventually, the fourth hospital he tried admitted Kampmeinert. The delay of several hours before receiving treatment may have contributed to her death.

Thursday’s service will be held at the First Baptist Church (969 Burrard Street) at 10 a.m. Prior to the service, firefighters led by the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services Band’s Drum Corp and the Honour Guard will march in columns of four. Because Kampmeinert was a member of the Honour Guard they will march with a “blank file” to symbolize their loss.
