Director Sam Mendes is slamming a British tabloid report that his marriage to Kate Winslet ended because of an affair with British actress Rebecca Hall, usmagazine.com reports.
Following Monday’s announced breakup of Winslet, 34, and Mendes, 44, after seven years of marriage, Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper claimed that Mendes and Hall became romantically involved after meeting in 2006.
A rep for Mendes calls the charge “utter nonsense … untrue and ridiculous.”
The Vicky Cristina Barcelona star, Hall, 27, worked with Mendes on the 2006 indie Starter for 10 (which Mendes produced) and has collaborated on various theatre projects.
Sources have told Us Weekly that it wasn’t infidelity but career-related issues that caused Winslet and Mendes’ marriage to unravel.
Mendes found his wife “overbearing” while they filmed Revolutionary Road together in 2007.
