An opportunity is knocking in the business sector, one with the multiple benefits that come when we invest in youth, inspire a brand new entrepreneur and indeed, inspire ourselves. Many business leaders are signing up to be a CYBF mentor.
The Canadian Youth Business Foundation is a national charity providing start–up financing, a world–class mentoring program, plus an online resource centre for enterprising individuals aged 18 to 34. Young entrepreneurs are a major contributor to Canada's economy and their success is directly fuelled by a mentoring relationship with business professionals. CYBF helps them to create and sustain their own successful business ventures – and it is your workplace experiences, including the lessons you've learned, that could make all the difference in the success of a young person's life.
CYBF is looking for experienced Canadian professionals with strong business acumen. Mentor qualities include good communication skills and the ability to listen and advise as necessary. While most of the young entrepreneurs approach the foundation for the start–up financing, they often report that having a hand–matched mentor was the most unanticipated value they received. Others come to the Foundation primarily to benefit from the mentoring program.
In return, mentors receive value, too. Testimonials posted on the website include the personally rewarding benefits that come with directly helping to shape Canada's future, giving back to the community, and capitalizing on brand new ideas that arise together. The program also gives you an opportunity to build and develop effective mentoring skills within internationally recognized standards and gives public recognition for time and participation.
Mentors tell the foundation “this type of support in many cases is the difference between success and failure."
