Metro Minute at Chinatown

If you haven’t checked out the Chinese imperial archway welcoming visitors and residents to Ottawa’s Chinatown yet, you should head on down.

Unveiled earlier this month, the Ottawa Chinatown Gateway, located on Somerset Street just off of Bronson Avenue, celebrates the 40th anniversary of Canada-China diplomatic relations and is the official entrance into Ottawa’s Chinatown.

The project, which cost $600,000, was funded by the governments of Canada and Ontario and the local BIA. The City of Beijing also contributed $300,000 of in-kind services, including architectural design, premium-grade materials and the expertise of Chinese tradesmen.
