That pounding beat you will hear downtown this weekend is coming from Hopscotch, the city’s first festival celebrating all aspects of hip-hop culture.

There will be b-boy dancing, MC and DJ music and graffiti art.

It kicks off Saturday with a show at the Paragon Theatre called New York to Halifax. It will feature New York hip-hop legends Pete Rock, Large Professor and Juju from the Beatnuts.

Over next week you can check out the DJ Olympics or the Concrete Canvas, which is a 100-foot wall that will feature the work of graffiti artists.

Classified will appear in concert on the Grand Parade Sept. 11.
