As Haligonians, we see the ocean almost as often as we do the Earth. Halifax-based artist Stephen Kelly hopes to examine this relationship in his exhibit Open Tuning (Wave Up) at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

Kelly’s exhibit explores the relationship between land and sea, sound waves and sea level. Using speakers mounted on the gallery walls and hanging from the ceiling, Kelly incorporates electronic and sculptural elements to create an “interactive work of art” that mimics buoys at sea responding to weather, the gallery website says.

Check out his exhibit at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax until Jan. 9.
